MTV Asia Awards and Pinoy power
I was able to catch the MTV Asia Awards last night. Unlike before where I would drop everything to watch the entire show, this time my sisters and I kept switching from PBB (haha!) and MTV. Needless to say I didn't get to see the show in its entirety but I was glad that I did catch the segments I was interested in watching.
- Was I surprised to see Sean of the Korean duo JinuSean presenting an award. I haven't heard a thing about the group lately, so his appearance on the show was a welcome sight. I was eagerly waiting for him to speak in English since I know he and Jinu grew up in Canada and were considered "English boys" in Korea, along with Tim, Tablo, Brian Joo and Taebin. Unfortunately for me, I was expecting too much. It wasn't bad but it wasn't as good as I was hoping. You can still hear the Korean accent in his English. Nice try anyway. And I'm glad he was there as a representative of JYP since Se7en was an awardee. ^^
- Woot! Se7en won! I was actually torn in between voting for him or for Tei but when I saw how big Se7en's lead was, I figured that there was no way Tei would have caught up. And in fairness, I had no idea Se7en could speak english that nice! Coz even though he is usually with Taebin and Tim in shows, he rarely spoke a word of English when the 2 would be asked to speak in English and I know he has been busy learning Japanese. So hearing Se7en was a nice surprise. His english was even better than Sean's! His performance was great, as usual. Live singing while doing all those gravity defying handstands and bone breaking dances. Se7en definitely brought his "thang."
- Kang Ta and Vaness' performance was great. Although when they first stepped out onto the stage, I was suddenly reminded of Bi (probably due to their costumes). Anyway, I knew Kang Ta would be great since he is such a seasoned performer. He is one of those artists that can really perform live. Vanness worked his way through some minor glitch while singing so everything's ok. I didn't actually get to enjoy the performance because I was too busy figuring out which language they were singing at different parts of the song (if you must know, I heard 3 languages: Korean, Chinese, and English) and trying to not get a headache with all the camera changes employed by the director. Good thing Rica sent me the clip. I will be able to just watch them perform since I'm already finished deconstructing the performance. All in all, I thought they were great. Perfect ending to the show. The 2 really must have some clout since they were able to wrangle to make their debut as a duo as the finale of the awards show.
- And last but definitely not the least, the segemnt I was proud to watch, the award for Best Philippine Artist. No surprise that it was Rivermaya that won the award. I don't know but its times like those that you feel proud to be Pinoy. Sounds cheesy, I know, but I couldn't help myself (I think the last time I felt this way was during the Victory rally of the SEA Games athletes in Ayala). There's something to seeing a kababayan get an award in front of millions of international viewers, and hearing them alternate Filipino with English in their acceptance speech. ^^ Anyway, when they performed, I was a bit disappointed that they played "You'll be safe here." Don't get me wrong, I love the song but I was hoping for a Tagalog song since the other performers sang in their native tongue, but all the same the performance made me smile. Fortunately, during the last part of the song, I heard Rico (haha feeling close ako!) singing tagalog lyrics to the song and that made me release a sigh of content. Baduy ko ba? Natuwa ako sa ilang linya na tinagalog? hehe!!!

Shock of the show- Se7en can really speak English well! :)
Kangta and Vanness had a great performance, but the weird crazy camera shots made me dizzy. And truly, wala din ako naintindihan sa song nila! Hahaha.

haha! same here, dude! pero parang surreal na that Kang Ta and Vanness were on the same stage. but it was nice to watch, albeit the camera changes were annoying. I guess the director kept snapping his/her fingers to the beat of the song and the person in charge thought that the director was ordering for the camera changes. lol!
